When I read Psalm 100 for the first time, I knew instantly this was the perfect chapter. Psalm 100 is a short chapter, but it is packed with so many essential components of Christian faith. It gives you an excellent summary of what to do in your faith.
Anytime I don’t know what chapter to read next in the Bible or if I need a quick burst of inspiration, I go to Psalm 100. It is like having a quick rejuvenation treatment for my mind and spirit. And I love that I can read it all in a short amount of time which works great on busy days.
Let’s look at each verse for the key points.
Psalm 100:1 – Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Give joy to the Lord: When you shout to the Lord, is it in joy or anger? When you have Jesus Christ, joy is not based on your circumstances. It is based on His love. His sacrifice is enough joy for eternity. Show God your joy for Him.
Psalm 100:2 – Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Serve the Lord: You can serve the Lord anywhere. At your job, in the park, on the bus, or in the grocery store. God needs people everywhere to spread the Good News. You can share His love with others in all you do.
Psalm 100:3 – Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us,
and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
There is only One God: The world tries very hard to take God out of everything. Don’t get confused into thinking there is no God or other options. Just because someone tries to say God doesn’t exist, doesn’t make it true. Jesus is real. There is only One God, and He is the Creator of all heavens and earth.
Psalm 100:4 – Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His
courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
Thank the Lord: It can be easy to thank God when everything is going well. But what about when things are not going your way? Don’t let your situation deter you from thanking the Lord for everything. It may be more difficult to feel grateful in your struggles but focus on the good and what God has done for you already. God turns everything for good, so thank God even in your tough times because He will turn it all for good.
Psalm 100:5 – For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
God is forever: God is so good, and He can’t be any other way. He only gives His unconditional love and faithfulness, regardless of your mess. If you accept Jesus Christ into your heart, you will live for eternity with God in heaven. Everlasting love. Forever and ever.
